(8th) Insight: Once per session as a free action, after a failed d20 roll, the Academic may attempt a check in any Knowledge skill. (7th) Advanced Applied Learning: The Academic may use his full Knowledge skill ranks when using the Applied Learning ability rather than half. Doing so is a full-round action and requires the Academic to speak or otherwise meaningfully communicate with the target of the ability. (6th) Inspired Instruction: The Academic may use his Applied Learning ability to enhance the skill check of another character. (5th) Improved Applied Learning: The Academic may use his Applied Learning ability with skills he has no ranks in, even if that skill cannot normally be used untrained. Each level of Willpower reduces sanity losses by 1, to a minimum of 0. ![]() (4th) The academic gains the Willpower/1 ability. (3rd) The academic gains a bonus feat from the following: Skill Focus (Craft, Entertain, Knowledge, or Profession), Persuasive, Negotiator, Sharp-Eyed, or Trustworthy The GM allows him to apply half his ranks in Knowledge(History) as a bonus to his Survival roll. For example, Professor Nigel Mansfeld remembers from his scholarly readings some of the techniques used by Aleutian natives to survive the cold. (2nd) Applied Learning: Once per game session, the academic may use half his applicable Knowledge skill ranks as a bonus to a related skill, subject to Keeper approval. This feat must be applied to the Craft, Entertain, Knowledge, or Profession skill. (1st) Skill Focus: The Academic receive Skill Focus as a bonus feat.
